Changes to our recycling points in January 2024

There will be changes or closures to all of our local recycling points from the 22 January 2024. There are signs at our recycling points to show you where your nearest alternative recycling site will be. Everything that is currently recycled at these sites will be collected in your kerbside collection.  

Why are we doing this?

Recycling points were introduced before good kerbside recycling services were established. We now have a much better recycling service. All of the items that you can take to a bring site can be collected through your usual kerbside recycling collection.  Charity recycling collection banks (which are not situated at the Council's allocated sites), will remain across the borough to offer a separate service.

What types of recycling can be collected through your usual kerbside collection?

Any excess recycling can be collected from next to your recycling bin if required. We collect a variety of items for recycling. Some of the most popular are:  

• Batteries: you can recycle batteries in a small clear bag, such as a sandwich bag, placed on top of your bin. They may also be accepted for recycling at your local supermarket
• Small electrical items: you can recycle small electrical items in a tied plastic bag and leave them next to your bin every week. Please don't use black bin liners. They may also be accepted for recycling at your local supermarket
• Shoes and textiles -you can recycle paired shoes and textiles in a sealed, clearly labelled bag next to your bins. They may also be accepted for recycling at your local supermarket

Will cardboard stacked next to your recycling bin be taken?

Yes. Cardboard stacked next to your bin will be taken. Everything you can drop off at a recycle point can be collected in our kerbside service. Does this mean there will be more fly tipping in the borough?

The items that our bring banks accept for recycling are already collected through our kerbside service. This means that you can still dispose of your rubbish properly at home.
