Our journey to improvement
Following a review, we have created an action plan which sets out the steps we will take to stabilise our:
- operations,
- governance and;
- culture
that provides value for money. We want to do this whilst still delivering quality vital services for residents. We have started addressing the issues identified and we're determined to make Guildford a thriving place to live, work, and do business.
It follows these important themes:
- clear strategic direction
- value for money
- decision making and governance
- public service culture
- effective service delivery
- improving our housing service

How will we monitor our progress?
We will report on progress against our action plan to you and our councillors every six months. The first update will be in December 2024. We have also appointed an Independent Assurance Panel to support us and they will be providing an external view of how we're doing every 6 months too.
We also publish regular detailed Financial Monitoring reports. The reports set out our progress against our budgets and is published online to ensure transparency
The 2024-25 Local Government Finance Settlement asked local authorities to create 'productivity plans.' These plans should explain how they will improve service performance and productivity. Our productivity plan matches our improvement journey. We will update our progress regularly in our performance reports.
